Dear Owner:

I am the President of the Leeland Park Civic Club, and I am writing to express our concern about the current state of your property in Leeland Park.  I understand that there may be valid reasons why your property is not being occupied, but the Civic Club would like you to realize the effect abandoned and sub-standard buildings have on the neighborhood.

Empty buildings have a very negative effect on the surrounding area.  They make the neighborhood look run down and become havens for drug addicts and the homeless.  By harboring undesirable people you run the risk of arson and may be liable for any crime that originates from your property.  We could go on and on and try to convince you, but you just need to ask yourself this question.  Don’t you want to contribute to the wellbeing of your neighbors and the welfare of the city?

We would also like to point out the benefits of tearing down your sub-standard buildings.  It decreases your property taxes since improved property is taxed.  This could cut your taxes by half!  Tearing down your buildings would also increase the value of your property since many investors use the look of the area to price the true value of real estate.  Leeland Park is getting ready for development and you could contribute to this trend, please do the right thing and take care of your property.

Please let us know as soon as possible your plans for your buildings.  We are preparing to petition the City for attention regarding these buildings and want to make sure we can present a comprehensive list.  I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Brian Van Tubergen

President
